How To Start A Business In Massage Therapy

A Massage Therapist is a safe, lucrative and recession-proof business to be in these days. Your clients will consider you invaluable, and pay very nicely for it. Here are some basics to help get you started with your own private practice.

Get certified through an approved massage school. Register your massage therapist name at the courthouse then decide on your location. Consider working out of your home if it is spacious and has a soothing feel to it. You can always move your private practice to town if your house is not an option; just make sure it is a heavily populated area.

Advertise your "grand opening" and offer discounted massages. "Word of mouth" can be your greatest avenue in gaining clients the entire time you are in business. Blog on how customers can better deal with stress, headaches and fatigue; it's also a handy way to market specials. Hand out business cards while standing in line. Make flyers online and ask medical clinics if you may leave them, along with your cards.

Your lighting can go one of two ways. Do you imagine your clients prefer a more relaxed and calming experience? If so, then have soft, dim lamps and candles. If you think they expect a more clinical approach, use white paint and beige furnishings with bright lighting. You can always have several different rooms, depending on your customer's needs. Of course, adjust your sound volume and plan your music accordingly. Many Massage Therapists use background bird and water sounds. Heated oil with a soothing aroma will complete your ambiance. Atmosphere and mood is everything.

Massage Therapists have healing hands and have been blessed with a gift. You can make a great living as a Message Therapist, as well as heal people. It's a win-win for everyone!
