Homemade bread is the ultimate comfort food! Nothing beats the smell of tasty homemade bread. What is more there is so much you can do with the humble bread.
This is why I really love bread makers. They have brought bread making within everyone's reach. With most of them you simply add the ingredients in the correct order, push a button an you're done. Some bread makers are even programmable so you can have the bread ready whenever you want without having to be there to start the process.
If you go into a store these days you see an array of different kinds of bread. That is lovely, but I like making my own bread at home. I love experimenting with different combinations and have come up with quite a few very tasty ones.
The recipe I love the most is actually very easy. I start with the normal bread recipe and then I add grated cheese, the cheese must be a strong cheese, in South Africa I use cheddar cheese, but I know there are places where cheddar cheese is pretty expensive. With the cheese I also add one small grated onion and some dehydrated Italian herbs. It may sound simple, but believe me it is tasty.
Other combinations I enjoy are raisins and glazed citrus peel, sun dried tomatoes and chopped olives, chopped, cooked spinach and feta cheese and chopped Vienna sausages and cheese.
This is what is so great about a bread maker. You can start with the basic recipes that all the booklets provide and once you have mastered it you can start experimenting. Most bread makers have very clear guidelines you can follow to make sure your bread is a success and if you should have a result that is not completely to your liking, most of the booklets have a chapter on trouble shooting so that you can see what the possible reasons for your problem are.
So, next time you are craving tasty, fresh homemade bread, give a bread maker a thought. They are not nearly as expensive as people may think and they are all very easy to operate.
